My Weight Loss Challenge and Instagram Diary
It is Saturday and I am sitting in my local Costa Coffee writing this post after consuming a large vanilla latte and a bacon roll (it was on offer for £1). You see, that’s the kind of excuses I come up with for eating food that I actually don’t need. Follow my weight loss challenge 0n Instagram, or even better, join me.
I have just worked out that it is only 7 weeks until I go on holiday. Exciting? Yes and shocking at the same time. I really need to get into better shape.
Last year I lost just over 2 stone, weighed 9st 5lbs and I felt great, looked good and I could fit in to all my clothes again. I had even bought a couple of new things in a smaller size. I lost this weight easily and people would ask me what my secret was. Of course, they were hoping I would come up with some magical formula to help them with their weight issues. The honest answer was that I simply stopped eating too much.
However, I am an emotional eater. If I am stressed or life is hectic, I eat. For me to lose weight, my head has to be in the right place and over the last few months it hasn’t been and I have put on around 1 stone. I don’t feel good and my clothes are tight. Shorts and tops that I bought for last year’s holiday no longer fit and I feel like I want to hide my body away under baggy clothing. I am dreading wearing my Tankini on the beach and I don’t want to feel like this. It has shocked me at how much a simple gain of just 1 stone has made me feel.
Just realising that my holiday is so close has given me a bit of a jolt. I knew I was gaining weight and I knew I was overeating. I just didn’t want to fully, consciously admit it. Now I have!
Time to Take Action
So, no more feeling miserable, it is time to do something about it. I am not sure my head is fully in the right place at the moment, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Things in real life will start to calm down over the next few weeks. If you have read any of my other posts you will notice a recurring theme running through them just recently and that is my eldest taking his GCSEs. I think I have lived every moment of this with him and we have spent a lot of time together practising and revising and I don’t regret One.Single.Minute but it is time to claim some headspace for myself as we come to the final weeks.
Weight Loss Diary with a Difference
So from today I have decided to do a weight loss diary with a difference. I will be keeping my diary on Instagram. I will be posting a picture of things I eat or drink each day and then sharing any weight loss or weight gain at the end of each week. If you would like to follow along you can follow me on Instagram here:
If you would like to join in that’s even better, I could do with some moral support, let’s use the hashtag #msjweightloss so I can see your posts. I am starting it off with a rather ‘too real’ picture of my body and this will be the ‘before’ picture.
What you WON’T see on my Instagram Feed
You will not see perfect pictures of platefuls of fruit. I am not a huge fruit fan, although I do eat some. I believe in being realistic and my diet has to fit around things I like (or I would give up straight away) and what the family like (there is no way I will be producing separate meals for myself every day). So if you want to see pictures of healthy fruit and veg - don't follow me.
What you WILL see on my Instagram feed:
Real food. I will eat crisps and cakes and potatoes and chips but they will be in smaller portions and I will be looking for areas I can improve in. If we indulge in a meal out, I will compensate by not eating so much for the rest of the day. So today I had the bacon roll, this will be in place of lunch, so no more eating until tea-time.
I want to lose 1 stone in 7 weeks, so that is a do-able 2 pounds per week.
Past experience tells me that the weight loss may not start in the first week, sometimes it takes two weeks to kick in.
Some weeks I know I will either have gained a small amount or not lost anything at all.
Although I cycle to work and back every day, this will be the only regular exercise I get. It will not be exercise alone that makes me lose the weight though, as I have managed to gain my stone in weight whilst cycling to work and back every day anyway.
