When Christmas is over and you are taking down all your Christmas cards, what do you actually do with them? You could recycle your Christmas cards into gift tags for the following year. This is what I like to do and it's extremely easy, saves you money and reduces waste.
I love to give Christmas Cards and I love to receive Christmas Cards. Some people say they are a waste of money or waste of resources. For me, it is a time to send a greeting to people who you love as well as those people who you may not see very often.
Once Christmas is over, it is time to take down the Christmas cards and convert them in to gift tags for the following year.
Simple Homemade Gift Tags
You can be as fancy or as simple as you like with your tags. Me, I prefer simple, quick and easy. I basically just take the Christmas card and cut the back of the card off. Instantly you have a gift tag!
Fancy Homemade Gift Tags
You can easily turn these simple tags into something more unique:
- Using a hole punch you can easily put a hole in the corner and tie some pretty ribbon through.
- Get the kids involved and armed with a glue stick and some glitter, they can really add some bling to your tags.
- Stick your cut out Christmas card onto another piece of card to provide a nice background. This works particularly well with embossed cards as it provides a flat surface for you to write on.
- Cut the tags into different shapes like stars, bells or baubles.
Pack your homemade gift tags away with your Christmas decorations. This way you will know exactly where they are for next year!
My Gift Tags from Recycled Christmas Cards
Here are the tags I made using Christmas cards from last year. As you can see, I did the simple version. I have just got these down from the loft, along with all the wrapping paper and cards for this year which I got in the January sales and stored everything in the loft with the Christmas decorations.
