This week I am NOT linking up with Cass, Emma and Becky in this week’s ‘Five Fabulously Frugal things I’ve done this week’ linky because I haven’t managed anything frugal this week AT ALL! So instead, to keep myself accountable when I look back, I will list the Five NOT Frugal Things I have done this week.
1. Met a Friend
I met up with my lovely friend for a coffee and a natter. We only get to meet up in school holidays. It was lovely to catch up though, so the cost was definitely worth it.
2. The TV Broke
One minute it was working and the next it wasn’t. The husband and I tried everything to fix it, but it wasn’t to be. Being this close to Christmas we were worried we wouldn’t be able to get one delivered before the big day and we only have a little car. Luckily, husband found a perfect one in our local Tesco and, after some careful measuring, managed to squeeeeeze it in the back of the car.
3. Christmas Meal
It was the annual Christmas meal for the upstairs admin staff (the downstairs admin do their own thing –that seems really weird when I see it in print but it’s not really). We went to a restaurant in town and had a lovely meal and the price wasn’t bad either - £21 for a three course meal. Being in town though meant the drinks were rather pricey. Another costly but great occasion.
4. Dry Cleaning
School holidays means the chance to get the boys blazers dry cleaned. So £13 spent on that this week. They are machine washable but I have done this in the past and it usually ruins the school badges that I have to sew on.
5. Bus Fares and Petrol
Normally I cycle the 7 mile round trip to work each day but this week, on two occasions, husband dropped me at work and I caught the bus back. This happened on the day I met my friend for coffee, the day I went out for my Christmas meal. Then on Friday, which was my last day at work before Christmas, the forecast was not looking good and I caved in when husband offered to take me in and pick me up again! I don’t mind the rain, I can cover up in my waterproofs, but any strong wind is scary when you are on a bike and the weather people had given this storm a name, so I expected it to be bad.
I hope you did much better than me this week. Do check out the other blogs if you are looking for frugal inspiration.
