Monthly Goals for May 2018
This year instead of making New Year’s Resolutions, I am making monthly goals. New Year’s Resolutions seem too final. How often do you make a resolution only for you to give up completely or your priorities change. That’s why I am going to have monthly goals. These seem far more achievable and can be dynamic throughout the year.

Goals for May 2018
April was a much better month for me, goals wise.
This was due to a combination of reasons. The first was that I cut down on the number of goals I set myself and the second was that I worked on my goals in a priority order. This prevented me from procrastinating too much or just picking the 'nice' goals to work on first!
Family and Home Targets
I smashed the decluttering - although I still have some to do! The boys bedroom was first on the list and it now looks amazing and much more fitting for two teenagers to share.
Then I did the bathroom. This didn't take long as our bathroom is tiny but it still needs a regular declutter every now and again.
It was the turn of our bedroom then. I sorted through my wardrobe and drawers and sent some items of clothing of to the charity shop. I also had a sort out of all the bedding and got rid of some sheets and pillowcases that had seen better days. These will be cut up and used as cloths.
The living room was next. I still have this to finish and then it is the turn of the kitchen. I am really pleased with what we achieved and it has spurred me on to complete the rest, although my time is now a lot more limited, so it will be baby steps.
I didn't replace the pie meal. After speaking to the boys, it turns out that they are not as fed up with the meal as I am. In addition, I have decided, yet again, that I need to try and lose some weight. The pie meal will stay but I will be having something lighter that is quick and easy to make.
We finally managed a day out and jumped at the chance to get to the coast whilst the whether was a bit nicer. This is not a cheap option though and we can't afford to do this every month. So for May it will definitely have to be more local and cheaper days out.
- We will look for somewhere free or cheap to visit
Money Saving Goals
I have lots of money saving goals but the ones listed here are the ones I have chosen to focus on this year.
Reduce grocery spend
• Again, I am aiming for a reduction of £10 per week. We currently spend around £100 per week for a family of four. This includes all meals (including packed lunches for 4) and all cleaning materials and toiletries. You can see my Reducing My Grocery Spend Spreadsheet.
• Project Kitchen – you can read find out more on my Project Kitchen Post – I hope to save £10 this month
Money Making Goals
Money Saving Journeys
I was pleased to secure some sponsored posts this month and will continue as I have been with this goal.
Side Hustle 1 - My Second Website
A surge in traffic to this website made me revisit it again. I really do like working on it and would spend more if time allowed. Despite it's neglect, it continues to bring in small amounts (think pennies) of passive income. Imagine what it could bring in if I focused more on this. The site has around 100 pages which need their content updating. I will aim to update at least 2 pages per day. Then I have decided to allocate one week per month on running this site.
Side Hustle 2 - Creatives and Media
Again, I am not setting goals for this site, I will work on this side hustle as and when time allows.
Side Hustle 3 - Surveys
As I have mentioned before, I absolutely love Prolific Academic. I earned a more in April than I did in March just because I logged in regularly. I even had one survey pay out £5 for just 15 minutes work.
You can also follow my progress on my Prolific Academic Spreadsheet.
- The target to check in everyday definitely stays for May.
Ad Hoc Side Hustles
This stays in and is my focus after my blog and before my other side hustles. I actually managed to get some work done on my eBook - finally! It has been written and proof-read. I have now printed it out to give it a final proof-read and then it will need formatting and uploading. It will be baby steps in any time I have in between everything else I have planned.
- Aim to fo the final proof-read of the eBook
Social Media Goals
You can find Money Saving Journeys on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Bloglovin' and Google +. This year I am going to focus on building engagement across the two platforms I enjoy the most and where I have the most followers – Twitter and Instagram.
Yet again, real life took over and I've hardly spent any time on Twitter or Instagram. I'm really pleased to see there has still been an increase though.
I did manage to write and create images for all of my May blog posts in advance. I also got all the images done, the content uploaded and scheduled and my social media planned and scheduled. By prioritising my goals, I make sure that I get all of this done before I go off and do things like my other side hustles. It works well and ensure I feel a sense of achievement part way through the month as well as at the end.
- Get all of June’s content scheduled in advance.
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is something I knew absolutely nothing about when I started my blog. I still have a very long way to go but it is something that has been on the back burner. When you start a blog there is so much to learn and the SEO aspect just overloaded my brain.
Nothing again for April. I just don't have the time. However, I am happy with how my blog is growing, so I must be doing something right. I will keep this goal on the list, just because I know it is important.
