How to Cook Jacket Potatoes in the Slow Cooker
Did you know you can cook Jacket Potatoes in your slow cooker?
I’ve been doing this for a while now and it still surprises me how many people either don’t know, or haven’t tried it. It is just so easy and you can have Jacket Potatoes ready and waiting for you when you get home.
How do you cook Jacket Potatoes in the Slow Cooker?
The preparation takes just minutes:
- Wash your potatoes
- Prick all over with a fork
- Rub with oil
- Sprinkle with salt (optional)
- Wrap individually in foil
- Pop in slow cooker
- Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low for 8-9 hours (adjust timings to suit your slow cooker)
Do Jacket Potatoes go crispy in the Slow Cooker?
No. The skin of the potato does not go crispy but, in my opinion, is of a much better texture than if microwaved. However, the inside of the potato tastes just like they have been cooked in the oven. The insides become fluffy and tasty.
Once they are cooked
Once your potatoes are cooked, carefully remove them from the slow cooker onto a plate. Remove the foil – careful though as it will be very hot!
Slice the potato in half and add your toppings.
Jacket Potato Toppings
The beauty of the Jacket Potato is that you can top it in a million different ways. They are perfect for families, as you can easily provide a different topping for anyone who has a different diet – ie vegan, vegetarian, dairy free – or for someone who is fussy - guess how I know!
Here are a list of my favourite, frugal, quick and easy toppings:
- Grated Cheese
- Beans and Cheese
- Soft Cheese with or without herbs
- Tuna Mayonnaise
- Chilli and sour cream
- Cottage Cheese and Pineapple
